Steve Beukema
About Me…
Hi! I’m Steve Beukema, and I serve as the Worship Director here at Pathfinder Church. It’s my passion and joy to worship the Lord and to help others share and develop their gifts of music as an expression of public worship to God. What I love about my role at Pathfinder is that I get to wear many different hats. You can find me on a Sunday morning up front playing organ or piano, directing the choir, orchestra, handbells, or singing and leading the praise band. During the week you might find me at rehearsals, at worship planning meetings, writing music, or assisting with various tech issues that may arise.
I grew up in Holland, Michigan, and I spent a good chunk of my life as a student, earning a bachelor’s degree in music from Hope College and a second bachelor’s degree in geology from Grand Valley State University. I spent some time studying musicology at New York University before moving to Kalamazoo, where I earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in geology from Western Michigan University. In addition to my role at Pathfinder I work locally in the field of environmental geology. I am also a Certified Lay Minister in the United Methodist Church. I am married to my wife, Hyunjoo, who is also an accomplished musician and who serves as accompanist for the choir.
If you are interested in getting involved in music ministry, whether it’s choir, praise band, orchestra, or assisting with media in areas such as sound or video, please contact me below.
